This is the first instalment of the now series of 4. For whatever reason, I always found another book that I needed to read desperately before I read this one. As such it had sat on my bookshelf for many years untouched, until one weekend. 

It initially took me a little while to settle into the pages, but as soon as I had, I found it very difficult to put down. Almost a modern day Sherlock and Watson, Cormoran and Robin seem the most unlikely yet very suitable characters that could have been thrown together. Watching their characters take on form was almost as enjoyable as the murder mystery itself.  

“The Cuckoo’s Calling” had me guessing until the very end and the how and why was tied up so perfectly I didn’t have any unanswered questions. 

At times in the beginning I found it a little slow paced, but had the characters and background history not have been set up so thoroughly, I don’t believe it would have been as successful in building a new world for us all to fall in love with.
